JERRY CASH

by his sister Sally Cash Soefje

Jerry Neal Cash was born in Atlanta, Texas, grew up in the Huffines Area, and graduated from Atlanta High School in the early 50's. He attended Texas A & M University where he earned a bachelor of science degree in agricultural economics. He retired from Eli Lilly Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana after 20 years where he worked the last few years as a National Sales Manager in the agricultural chemical sales division.

Jerry loved Atlanta almost as much as he loved being an Aggie, so he returned to the farm where he grew up and started the Broken Dollar Ranch. At the time of his death, Jerry was a substitute teacher for the agriculture department of Atlanta High School. He served on the Atlanta I.S.D. School Board from 1992-1995. He was president of Cass County Fire District I. He was a member of the Atlanta Bowling Association and was a member and Sunday school teacher at Huffines Baptist Church. Jerry was loved by all who knew him, and we all have our funny stories to tell about Jerry--There was no one quite like him! He was a big tease and liked to have something going all the time! I miss him talking out of the side of his mouth. Know what I mean?

Of course, when Jerry was in high school in Atlanta, I was in the 1st-4th grades, and I remember a lot of his friends especially his girl friends. I was the typical brat sister trying to listen when he talked to them on the phone, etc. I thought he was going to smother me with a pillow if I tattled on him. I believe he was in the 10th grade when he broke his leg on a hayride, and I remember a constant stream of visitors. Of course, I tryed to hang around and listen. I would love for Jerry's former classmates, relatives or friends to write a few lines about their connection with Jerry. I'm certain that there are many memories that you might want to share. Some might be sad, but if I knew my brother, there are some very humorous memories about Jerry Cash.

I fondly remember the time not so long ago that Jerry and I walked hand in hand out on the football field as Atlanta Alumni. That was the last game that was played in Bivins Trice Stadium, and even though there was an age difference of ten years, each of us had spent a lot of time out on that football field, and it was a very sentimental night for both of us. Jerry was a family man, leaving behind his wife, Jeanne Cash, a son and daughter-in-law, William Neal and Lisa Cash and three daughters and three sons-in-law, Cindy and Wesley Bickerdike, Stephanie and Tommy Potter, Cheri and Carlos Duet, one sister and brother-in-law, Sally Cash and Bobby Soefje. At the time of his death, Jerry had nine grandchildren, but now, that number would be ten. Jerry would be really proud!

I am hoping that after you read this, you will add your own memory of Jerry Neal Cash. He was a colorful character with a lot of love for his family and his community! I miss him so much, and I'll never forget him.....................Sally Cash Soefje
