REUNION REPORT
The 1971 graduates of Atlanta High School held a class reunion on the weekend of October 13, 2001.
Those wishing to attend the 2001 AHS Homecoming Game met at Rabbit Stadium and were seated together on Friday night, Oct. 12, 2001. Some had not seen others for 10, 20 and even 30 years, making it interesting and surprising.
On Saturday night, the classmates gathered at 7:00 p.m. at Indian Hills Country Club for a fun-filled evening of fellowship, remembrances, and lots of pictures and dancing.
With 49 classmates attending, the reunion began with welcoming words from the 1971 class president, Bill Dupree. Dupree thanked everyone for being there, some having traveled many miles, and then gave special thanks and recognition to those who had worked so diligently for months preparing for that night in order to make it a success. Those included, Jana Welch Granberry, Sherry King Estes, Linda Rogers Manley, Camille Smith Dawn, Debbie Vaughan Henson, Paula and Danny Harp, and Steve Little. Also special thanks to those who worked on Saturday at the Country Club helping to decorate.
After a trip down memory lane from days gone by, Dupree then focused attention to a video provided by Video Perfections, reflecting times from very young and continuing through primary, elementary, junior high, and high school years.
Also captured on the video were memories from the 10 year and 20 year reunions resulting in both laughter and tears. Copies of this video are available from Debbie Vaughan Henson, Video Perfections, 903/846-5600.
After enjoying the video, entertainment was provided by Ace Up DJ, featuring music from the 60's, 70's, 80's, and 90's allowing the dance floor to be filled with appropriate moves from each era.
Finger foods, chips and dips, and a large cake styling the “Rabbit” were served during the evening from the table resembling Old Glory.
The theme for the evening was patriotic, seeming appropriate due to the recent tragedy of September 11. Flags, candles, balloons, hats, and all forms of red, white, and blue stars and stripes decorated the room for the gala event.
The remaining balance of $320.00 from receipts of participation in this event was presented to the American Red Cross by the Atlanta High School Class of 1971.
With the dance ending at midnight, plans were discussed for another reunion in 2006. After some long and sad goodbyes and a night of new memories, the decorations were taken down and the lights turned out on an evening among cherished, life-long friends.

a lot of good times to be had by all. Don't miss it.
If you have not
received your invitation by mail, please let us know. We invite our friends
from other classes to come out and and help us celebrate.
Our 30 year reunion of the class of '71 was the best one yet. We had between 60 to 70 people attending with 45 or so being members of the class. The music was great, the food was wonderful, and the fellowship was the best. We have not lost our edge as far as having a good time! It was so much fun to see everyone. Let's hear what you thought about the party. Classmates, write a line or two telling us what you think, pros, cons, and suggestions.
The patriotic theme and decorations were outstanding. Pictures should be following shortly. Debbie Vaughan Henson put together a video from the first grade on including high school, 10, 20, and 30 year reunions. If you did not order one of these, you are missing out. It brings back so many memories and the background music will make you think you are really 18 again!
We missed our friends who could not make it. We will look forward to seeing you next time.
Thanks,
Camille Smith - Dawn

We plan to have a patriotic theme to our party on Sat. evening at the
Country Club. We felt that was only fitting with our present situation in
this country. All our classmates who will be attending Friday night's game
are reminded to look for the reserved
section for us in the upper section of the home side. The area is supposed
to be north of the press box, but it may be south. It will be clearly
marked with a "reserved" sign and several of us will be there early.
Thank you !
Jana
